As soon as you enter the front hall of this
fine 1888 house, you are faced with a large and
very blank wall. A perfect opportunity to introduce
some drama and colour in the form of a hand-
painted mural!

The dado rail had to stay, so did the original
heavily-embossed wallpaper. Everyone agreed
on a view over some kind of foreground feature,
so I produced sketches of six different
ways of doing this.

The framework from the first sketch above and
the view from the second were chosen, so the next
step was to draw a more accurate visual of the new
combination (right).

The light blue grid is a help in transferring the
design to the wall. Each sqare on the rough is
enlarged by eye to six inches square on the wall.
